About

Welcome to Land of Entrapment. I write about the terrific, the tragic, and the terrible. The weird, the horrific, and the wonderful. And everything I write about has happened right here in New Mexico – in the Land of Enchantment. Or, as some call it, the Land of Entrapment.

The joke goes, “Come on vacation, stay on probation, come back on violation!” But the truth is that New Mexico may have its faults, yet something about it just charms you and pulls you in. I feel so lucky to live here. I get to explore the most beautiful places and ghost towns and watch the most magnificent sunsets.

This mysterious state has more legends than I can tell, though I’m going to try with this blog. New Mexico hides many secrets in its vast cactus-dotted deserts, its hazy blue mountains, its crumbling adobe ghost towns, and its magical coniferous forests. One can never be too careful in this place, where a body can be concealed so easily.

While this state shares a border with Mexico and is known for having the highest per-capita crime rate in the US, there is so much more to it than that. There is an eclectic art scene, and an incredible local cuisine, and indigenous cultures that have survived global homogeneity. There are vast swaths of untouched wilderness with thriving desert ecosystems, and also ranches and farms that somehow endure in one of the most arid states in the US. Some of the best hiking in the world can be enjoyed here. There is just something wild, primitive, and fascinating about this desolately populated state. New Mexico draws many people in – and swallows some of them whole.

So join me as we explore all of New Mexico, both the light and the dark. Maybe this is the Land of Entrapment, but I’m sure happy to be “entrapped” here!
